I was a sacrifice to your gods.
I was the virgin that was offered to Odin.
You told me Valhalla awaited me on the other side.
I wanted to believe you.
As I walked up the steps to the alter.
I wanted to feel the honor.
I trusted and loved you.
Love was what would guide me to salvation.
Every step I take gives me more doubt.
I see the alter ahead of me.
I know I must continue to not bring shame to you.
Love does not lie.
As I walk up the alter I sense that this death will be honorable
I know that the gods will welcome me.
I see the uncertainty on your face.
But love and sacrifice are the same.
You tell me the people will always love me.
I will be the savior of all.
I will become more than human.
The gods will call me champion.
I will sit next to Odin himself in Valhalla.
I lay myself on the alter willingly.
I see the Volva raise the knife.
and before it comes down.
I do not see Odin.
I do not see Valhalla.
All I see is the blade about to take my life.
And as it passes through my flesh.
I know now that there are no halls of Valhalla.
I have just died for nothing.
I was sacrificed to idol gods.
I was sacrificed for nothing.
My death is nothing.
